Light of Chance to host 5th Annual Aspire Weekend

MADISONVILLE, KY (MAY 23, 2011) Light of Chance, Inc. will host its annual Aspire, a Weekend of Revitalization event, June 10th-12th in Madisonville, KY. Aspire is a community-wide weekend celebration aimed at empowering and uniting people from different economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds. The weekend is sponsored by the City of Madisonville and Carhartt Inc., and will consist of a community cookout, teen summit, comedy chow and a gospel explosion.
“Aspire offers an enjoyable experience for all ages,” says Eric Logan, Light of Chance Founder and Executive Director. “The weekend is about mentoring, empowering and inspiring but it’s also about fun and entertainment too.”
“Every year, we try to make Aspire bigger and better so those who have attended in the past will experience it on another level,” Logan says, “and first-timers will walk away with an experience they’ll never want to miss again.”
The weekend will begin on Friday, June 10th with a family-friendly kick-off at the Dr. Festus Clayborn Park from 4 to 8 p.m. There will be free food, games, music and fun for people of all ages.
The teen summit, a series of interactive, youth-centered sessions and workshops will be held on Saturday, June 11th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (onsite registrations begins at 9 a.m.) at Browning Springs Middle School, located at 357 West Arch St., Madisonville, KY 42431. This year’s sessions are Music and Spoken Word, Improv and Photography, Dance and Stepping, Sex and Healthy Relationships, Influence of Media and Pop Culture and College Prep & Life. The summit is free and open to all middle and high school students. Breakfast and lunch will be provided to all participants.
The comedy show will be held on Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m., with doors opening at 7 p.m. The show will be hosted by Renard Hirsch (featured on BET, the World Famous Laugh Factories and Zanies) and will feature comedians Flash Flood, Mike James and Brian “B Cov” Covington. It will take place at Byrnes Auditorium at the Madisonville Community College Health Campus, located at 750 North Laffoon St., Madisonville, KY 42431. Admission is $10 at the door, with advance tickets available for $7 at lightofchance.org, Owensboro Federal Credit Union and Jigga’s Place.
Aspire will culminate on Sunday, June 12th, with a community-wide gospel explosion filled with praise and worship, featuring performances by The Sons of Jacob (of Hopkinsville, KY), Unity (Campbellsville, KY), New Generation of Praise (Hopkinsville, KY) and words of encouragement from Rev. David Kelso at 3 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church, located at 315 Graves St., Madisonville, KY 42431.
